This exquisite piece showcases the renowned cloisonné enamel technique (**Jingtailan**) from the Republican era.

Jingtailan is crafted by forming intricate designs with thin copper wire on a copper base, filling the outlined areas with colored enamel glazes, and then firing, polishing, and gilding the piece multiple times.

This particular vessel is characterized by its substantial copper base, regular, twisted gold wire outlines, and vibrant, fully saturated glazes, representing the exemplary craftsmanship of Beijing-made Jingtailan during the Republican period.

Its form features a circular mouth, a tapering neck, flowing shoulder lines, a bulbous body, and a ring-shaped foot, adhering to the classic Guanyin or Shang-style vase form. The lines are neat and elegant, with a height of 21cm, making it a standard size for decorative display.

The vase is adorned with a black background, featuring a spiraling vine and flower (quán cháo jīn) pattern in diagonal relief. The main motif is a blooming chrysanthemum, complemented by butterfly designs. Supplementary borders of lotus petal and ruyi patterns enhance the composition, creating a harmonious and rich color palette that is both serene and opulent. Chrysanthemums symbolize nobility and longevity, while butterflies, homophonous with '}]' (fú dié - fortune and blessings), are traditional auspicious motifs.

Details of the craftsmanship are fully intact, with gilded elements on the mouth rim, geometric patterns, and the base revealing a smooth patina. During the Republican era, Jingtailan was mass-produced for export, and these black-ground vases featuring birds and flowers were popular decorative items. The enamel surface is smooth and lustrous, with finely woven gold wire, distinguishing it not only from the coarser pieces of the late Qing dynasty but also from the rigid and rough texture of modern, machine-made Jingtailan. It is also perfectly suitable for use as a functional vase.

경태란은 구리를 바탕으로 하고, 가는 구리선으로 문양의 윤곽을 파낸 뒤, 각색의 에나멜 유약을 채워 넣어 여러 차례 소성·연마·유금 처리하여 완성한 것입니다. 이 기물은 동태가 두껍고 금사는 꼬아 짜 넣은 선이 규칙적이며, 유색이 충만하여, 민국 시기 베이징 제작 경태란의 전형적인 공예 수준을 보여 줍니다.
원형 입구, 굽은 목, 어깨선이 흘러내리는 형태, 배가 불룩한 형태, 고리형 받침으로, 고전적인 관음병/상병 형식이며, 선이 단정하고 우아하고, 높이 21cm로, 홀 장식용 표준 크기에 속합니다.
검은 바탕에 전면에 사선 장식의 권초금 무늬를 두르고, 주된 장식은 활짝 핀 국화이며, 나비무늬를 배합하고, 연판무늬와 여의문 테두리 장식을 보조로 더해 색채 조화가 차분하면서도 화려합니다. 국화는 고결함과 장수를 뜻하고, 나비는 “복첩”과 동음이의어를 이루어 전통적인 길상 장식 소재입니다.
