### Artist Biography:

Born in Seoul in 1948, Kim Huikyoung graduated from Seoul National University's College of Fine Arts. After holding her first solo exhibition at Myungdong Gallery in 1972, she moved to Paris and graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Primarily working with printmaking, Kim Huikyoung has consistently participated in the prestigious SAGA exhibition in France since the 1990s, while also occasionally exhibiting in Korea.

Her notable participations include the 'Korean Artists in France Print Exhibition' at Kim Nae-hyun Gallery in 1994 and the 1st Seoul Print Art Festival in 1995. In 2022, she contributed to the Korea-France Contemporary Woodcut Exhibition 'Affinités – 결의 만남' held at Gimpo Art Village Art Center.

Her work 'Winter I' (1994) is an abstract piece reflecting the artist's perception of winter. The composition utilizes a vertical canvas with ample space at the top, placing the main forms in the center and lower sections. The artwork is a collage of screenprinting and paper objects.

Kim Huikyoung masterfully incorporates Hanji (Korean traditional paper) cut into triangular shapes, overlaid with calligraphic lines created through screenprinting. Further elements include thinly sliced paper objects resembling East Asian script and black linear strokes, all collaged together. This approach, reminiscent of the minimalist composition found in traditional East Asian painting (using 'yeo-baek' or empty space), combined with a limited monochrome palette and East Asian script motifs, imbues the work with a meditative atmosphere. This distinct style, developed while working in France, offers a profound sense of East Asian sensibility.

김희경

김희경(1948-)은 서울에서 태어나 서울대학교 미술대학을 졸업했다.
1972년 명동화랑에서 개인전을 개최한 후, 파리로 이주한 작가는 파리국립미술학교를 졸업했다.
판화를 주요 매체로 다루며, 파리를 중심으로 활동해 김희경은 1990년대부터 프랑스의 대표적인 판화전인 《SAGA》전에 꾸준히 참여했으며, 이따금 한국에서 개최하는 전시에 참여했다.

그는 1994년 김내현화랑에서 개최한 《재불작가 판화초대전》과 1995년 제1회 《서울판화미술제》에 참여했으며 2022년에는 김포아트빌리지 아트센터에서 개최된 한국–프랑스 현대목판화전 《Affinités–결의 만남》에 출품했다.

〈겨울 Ⅰ〉(1994)은 비정형의 작품으로, 겨울에 대한 작가의 심상 표현을 볼 수 있다. 작가는 세로로 긴 화면에서 상단을 여백으로 두고, 중앙과 하단에만 형상을 배치했다. 작품은 스크린 판화와 종이오브제를 콜라주 한 작업이다.

작가는 하단에 한지를 삼각형의 형태로 잘라 붙이고, 그 위에 서체적인 선을 스크린 판화로 인쇄한 후 동양의 문자를 연상케 하는 종이오브제와 검은 획선이 담긴 종이오브제를 얇게 잘라 콜라주 했다. 동양화의 여백을 남기는 구성 방식과 모노톤의 제한된 색 사용, 동양의 문자와 서체적인 선으로 인해 작품은 명상적인 분위기를 띤다. 이러한 모습은 프랑스에서 활동하는 한국 작가의 작품을 보다 동양적으로 느껴지게 한다.
