This piece is a representative work from Yongcheon Kiln's celadon opening, featuring standard Buncheong glaze. The glaze layer is thick and even, clear with a gentle and lustrous sheen, and well-rounded, showcasing Yongcheon Kiln's high-quality colored glaze.

Furthermore, the lip edge and the base legs reveal a layer of pale brown foot rim (purple sand soil), which is a typical 'iron foot' characteristic of Longquan Kiln.

The flat top and rim, and the lid handle are carved with a three-dimensional small elephant, rendered in a playful yet neat form.

The character '象' (xiang) is homophonous with '祥' (xiang), signifying auspiciousness and peace, as in 'there are elephants in times of peace.' Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, this auspicious elephant motif has been a popular decorative style in celadon ware, symbolizing new beginnings and prosperity.

Historically, this type of jar was used to store tea leaves and incense due to its excellent sealing properties, serving as a traditional tea caddy.

The monochrome celadon glaze is simple and versatile, complementing any setting. It possesses both practical utility and artistic value.

용천요 분청유코끼리단추뚜껑 항아리이 작품은 용천요 청자 개관으로, 표준 분청유이며 유층이 두껍고 고르게 맑고, 광택은 온화하고 윤택하며 안으로 잘 감돌아용천요를 대표하는 고급 유색입니다. 또한 입술 가장자리와 바닥 다리에는 옅은 갈색의 태골(자금토)이 한 겹 드러나 있는데, 이는 룽취안요의 전형적인 ‘철족’ 특징에 속합니다. 평평한 꼭대기와 평평한 가장자리, 뚜껑 손잡이에는 입체적인 작은 코끼리를 조각했으며, 형태는 익살스럽고 단정합니다.
상(象)은 ‘상(祥)’과 동음이며, 태평에는 상이 있다는 뜻으로 길상과 태평, 만상이 새롭게 갱신됨을 상징하는 명청 이래 청자에서 매우 유행한 길상 노리개 양식입니다. 옛날에는 찻잎과 향료를 보관하던 것으로, 밀폐성이 좋아 전통적인 차 창고였습니다.
단색 청유는 담백하고 어디에나 잘 어울리며, 실용성과 감상 가치를 함께 갖추고 있습니다.
