At the time, billions of Zimbabwean dollars were needed just to buy an egg or a piece of bread, as the value of cash plummeted. Prices for the same item could even differ between morning and afternoon.

After the abandonment of its own currency in 2009, its value as an official currency disappeared. However, it is recognized for its value as a historical artifact serving as an economic cautionary tale.
