## Vintage 1970s Kutani Maruyama Sake Set - Unused Full Set

This exquisite, unused full set of Japanese Kutani-ware sake vessels from the 1970s by Maruyama features a tokkuri (sake bottle) and five hexagonal sake cups, all housed in a fitted wooden compartment box.

**About Kutani-ware:**
Originating from the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture in the mid-17th century, Kutani-ware is renowned for its vibrant colors (red, green, yellow, blue, purple) and opulent designs, often enhanced with gold accents.

**Design & Symbolism:**
This set showcases the distinctive Kutani style, with the tokkuri featuring a gold-patterned band on a red base at the neck and shoulders, and colorful painted motifs on the body. The design depicts an elderly couple beneath a pine tree with flying cranes, a traditional Japanese motif known as 'Takasago.' This imagery symbolizes longevity and marital harmony, making it an ideal gift for weddings, parents, or housewarmings.

**Set Includes:**
* 2 Tokkuri (Sake Bottles): Height 17cm / Approx. Diameter 8cm
* 5 Hexagonal Sake Cups: Height 3.7cm / Opening Diameter 5.5cm (with gold rim)
* 1 Wooden Compartment Box: Perfectly fits the tokkuri and cups.

**Markings:** Each piece is marked with the Kutani Maruyama (九谷 圓山) seal on the base.

**Decorative Potential:**
When displayed upright in its box, this set transforms into a decorative piece, perfect for enhancing the ambiance of living rooms, kitchen shelves, or as an interior accent for izakayas and Japanese restaurants.

**Condition & Notes:**
* This is an unused item. The original owner appears to have removed the lid of the wooden box, possibly for display purposes.
* The gold rims and accents can be damaged or discolored by microwave or dishwasher use. Hand washing is recommended.

**Display:**
The fitted wooden box allows for upright display, making it a charming decorative item for shelves or tables.
