A landmark 1979 recording by Anner Bylsma, an indispensable figure in the history of Bach's Cello Suites.

This is an original German 3LP box set, catalog number RL 30369, released by RCA Red Seal and the early music specialist label SEON. It features Anner Bylsma's pioneering interpretation of the complete Bach Cello Suites BWV 1007–1012, performed on period instruments with historically informed performance practices.

For Suites 1 through 5, a Matteo Goffriller baroque cello was used. Notably, for the Sixth Suite BWV 1012, a 5-string Violoncello Piccolo was employed, in line with Bach's performance practices of the era. This results in a distinct difference in tone and musical character compared to typical recordings played on a single modern cello.
