[BUNJANG] Blue and White Porcelain Jar with Fish and Dragon Motifs / 청화어조문절견집호

This blue and white porcelain jar is influenced by Persian metalwork from the region now known as Iran.

The body is adorned with intricate underglaze blue paintings, primarily featuring **carps (궐어)**, a symbol of imperial power, surrounded by **fish scale patterns**. The shoulder area, characterized by its cut-off design, is decorated with **floral scroll motifs**.

Decorative elements extend to the neck with **lotus petal patterns** and a **small lattice pattern** above. Below the garlic-bulb-shaped mouth rim, **ruyi scepter motifs resembling lotus flowers** are applied, creating an atmosphere of luxury and splendor.

Uniquely, the water spout is **square** instead of the usual round shape. A support structure has been installed at the neck to reinforce this structurally weak area, enhancing both its decorative appeal and overall balance.

Notably, the area where the body meets the spout features **raised and applied decorations reminiscent of dragon heads**, further elevating the piece's dignity. The back of the base is adorned with **thunder patterns**, and the handle features **floral scroll designs**, showcasing complete ornamentation.

The density of the clay body and the sound produced by high-temperature firing suggest the high quality characteristic of Yuan and Ming dynasty export ceramics.

While there is a slight imperfection in the glaze surface, possibly from the firing process, the overall craftsmanship, the vibrant blue of the underglaze, and the excellent condition make this a truly remarkable artifact.

금속기 형태의 영향을 받은 청화 집호입니다.
주문양은 짙은 청화로 동부 가득
황실을 상징하는 쏘가리(궐어, 闕魚)를 중심으로
어조문을 시문하였고, 절견부분(어깨부분이 잘린 형태)에는
종속문인 보상화 전지문을 시문하였습니다.
목 부분에는 연판문을 배치하였고 그 위로는 작은 격자문을 돌렸으며
산두(마늘 머리) 형식의 구연부 아래로는 연꽃을 품은 여의두 문을
시문하여 고급스러움과 화려함을 연출하였습니다.
물대는 일반적인 원형과는 달리 사각형을 취하였는데,
구조적인 약함을 보완하는 지지대를 목 부분에 설치함으로써
장식성과 균형미도 동시에 충족시켰다 하겠습니다.
특히, 동부와 접하는 부분에는 용두(龍頭)를 연상케 하는
양각 및 첩화 장식을 함으로써 기품을 고조시켰으며
굽 바깥 쪽 뇌문과 손잡이의 전지문까지 완벽한 장식은 물론,
태토의 치밀함과 고온 소성을 짐작케 하는 소리까지
원명대 수출자기의 품격을 유감 없이 드러내고 있습니다.
해수품으로 보이는 유면 상태의 아쉬움은 있지만,
성형 솜씨, 청화의 발색 등 전반적으로 나무랄 데 없는
훌륭한 기물이라 하겠습니다.
