A rare 'Celadon White Porcelain Landscape Square Inkstone Water Dropper' crafted at the Joseon Dynasty's Bunwon Kiln.

This square landscape inkstone water dropper was a favored scholarly item among Joseon scholars.

An inkstone water dropper (yeonjeok) is a calligraphy tool used by scholars to hold and drip a suitable amount of water for grinding ink on an inkstone.

It features two holes: one in the center of the top surface and another near the spout at the front.

By covering one hole on the top with a finger, air pressure is regulated, allowing for precise control over the water flow.

The top surface is adorned with a landscape motif painted in blue celadon cobalt, depicting mountains, rivers, and boats. This style, influenced by the Jin-gyeong landscape paintings of the Yeongjo and Jeongjo eras in the late Joseon Dynasty, reflects the scholars' desire to connect with nature.

Scholars explain that the landscape depicted on this water dropper represents the view of the Han River and Geumdan Mountain as seen from the Bunwon-ri kiln site in Gwangju.

To ensure stability, the base of the square water dropper is fitted with four L-shaped legs.

It is said that calligraphy masters often prepare multiple inkstones with specially designed holes to achieve their peak artistic level, signifying countless hours of dedicated practice and self-cultivation.

You may have seen landscape inkstone water droppers from the Bunwon Kiln before. This particular piece is slightly lower in height than average, and the celadon painting is not overly dark; excessively dark blues can sometimes obscure the subtle beauty of the tones.

As seen in the photos, this piece is in impeccable condition with absolutely no repairs or flaws, and the glaze is exceptionally clean. It is a rare, top-quality masterpiece in excellent condition and a genuine Bunwon artifact.

Due to its popularity, square inkstone water droppers are unfortunately often imitated. We strongly advise careful consideration and recommend acquiring authentic pieces.

Ceramics, even if appearing similar, have strict distinctions between masterpieces and common items in terms of condition, rarity, and artistic merit.

Unlike mass-produced goods from a local mart, there is no uniform standard price for antique ceramics.

Please consider the item's quality before evaluating the price. Focusing solely on price will make it difficult to acquire a truly excellent piece.

This is truly the best of the best!

Thank you.
