A Japanese Karatsu white porcelain tea bowl with iron-painted floral motifs.

Karatsu ware originated in the 16th century, influenced by Korean potters, establishing a deep connection with Joseon.

'Joseon Karatsu,' as it's known in Japan, is not of Korean origin but Japanese. It shares similarities with Korea's Hoeryeong kiln, leading to speculation that a potter from Hoeryeong may have been the first to establish Karatsu production.

During the Edo period, Karatsu ware emerged, influenced by both Joseon and China. This particular tea bowl incorporates ceramic techniques from all three cultures.

The unglazed foot is a characteristic Karatsu technique. The application of glaze drips on the foot reflects Chinese influence, while the iron-painted floral patterns on the body showcase Korean techniques.

The cylindrical shape and the flow of glaze from the rim down to the foot create an artistic appeal.

카라쯔는 조선과의 뗄래야 뗄수없는 도요지로 16세기 조선의 도공의 영향으로 시작되었습니다.
일본에서 불리는 조선카라쯔는 국내산이 아닌 일본산으로 조선의 회령요와도 닮아 있어 카라쯔의 시작이 회령요의 도공이 처음으로 가서 제작하지 않았을까 하는 추정도 하고 있습니다.
에도시기 들어오면서 조선과 중국의 영항을 받은 카라쯔가 생산되는데 본다완은 한중일의 제작기법이 포함되어 있습니다.
저부 유약을 시유하지 않는건 카라쯔의 기법이며 저부 장유를 바른건 중국의 영향으로 몸통으로 꽃무늬의 철화를 시문한건 국내의 기법입니다.
통형으로 구연부에서 문양위로 굽까지 흘러내리는 유약의 흐름은 예술적입니다.
