[BUNJANG] Korean Classical Poetry Manuscript 'Gab-eul' from Late Joseon to Early Modern Period / 갑을

## Overview

This is a handwritten collection of Korean classical poetry (Hansi) estimated to be from the late Joseon Dynasty to the early modern period. The cover is marked with the symbol 'Gab-eul' (甲乙), and the inner pages contain a collection of seven-character regulated verse (Qilü) showcasing the high level of humanistic knowledge of scholars from that era. A distinctive feature is the grading notation, seemingly used in contemporary poetry gatherings or literary clubs.

## Detailed Content and Features

* **Literary Value:** The collection includes various Hansi, ranging from 'Bulgyo Cheongdaeung' (불교청음대아랑), which sings of the integrity of bamboo, to 'Iljangsa' (일장사), dealing with the historical events of Xiang Yu and Fan Kuai, and 'Budeukdouyun' (부득도요운), capturing the sorrows of frontier life. These poems embody the sentiments of reclusion and historical narratives.

* **Rare Recording Method:** Notations such as 'Hae-tae I-sang' (下手 二上) and 'Hae-tae I-jung' (下手 二中) written below each poem's title appear to be evaluations of the rhyme and quality of the poetry at the time (a form of peer review). This serves as valuable evidence that the manuscript was a practical teaching material used in seodangs (traditional Korean schools) or literary circles.

* **Calligraphy and Preservation:** The manuscript is written in the neat and elegant semi-cursive script characteristic of the late Joseon to early modern period. While the cover shows signs of age, the handwritten text of the main body is remarkably clear and fluidly preserved, making it highly valuable for appreciation and research.

* **Specifications:** Width 18.5cm, Height 19.5cm / Total 51 pages (including sections like 12 pages of main text).
