## Chinese Antique Tripod Censer

This exquisite censer is crafted from white bronze, featuring a multi-tiered structure combining a main censer body, a pagoda-shaped lid, and a separate circular base. Standing approximately 35.5cm tall, it showcases architectural forms adorned with intricate dragon, cloud, scroll, and lotus petal motifs.

### Main Censer Body

The central censer features a rounded body supported by three legs, a classic tripod design. The front of the body is embellished with a relief of a dragon swimming through clouds, with detailed scales, mane, and claws. The sides are decorated with upward-curling ears and continuous scroll patterns, enhancing its decorative appeal.

### Tripod Legs

The three legs are sculpted in the form of animalistic faces (Shou Mian Zu), functionally supporting the censer's weight while adding to its decorative richness and conveying a sense of majesty alongside the dragon motifs.

### Pagoda Lid

The upper section features a lid reminiscent of traditional Chinese pavilions, with a double-eaved structure. The roof ridges and eaves are intricately detailed, and the intermediate walls feature a series of arched windows. Vents below the eaves allow incense smoke to dissipate naturally.

### Circular Base

The separate base is circular, adorned with raised lotus petal patterns and featuring openwork details at the bottom. The top surface is decorated with a relief of a dragon playing amidst waves, harmonizing with the dragon motif on the main body. The assembly is designed to be detachable, as seen in the images.

### Qianlong Mark

A 'Qianlong Nian Zhi' (乾隆年製) mark is present on the bottom of the censer body. However, such marks were also widely used on later Chinese metal crafts as classic decorative elements, and thus do not solely guarantee the item's production during the Qianlong period.

### Condition

The censer exhibits the characteristic silvery-grey metallic sheen of white bronze. The surface naturally bears signs of oxidation, discoloration, friction, and use. This is a highly decorative Chinese metal censer, characterized by its vertical composition of the pagoda lid, tripod censer, and lotus base, incorporating dragon motifs and traditional architectural elements.

백동으로 제작된 중국식 삼족 향로로, 향로 본체와 누각형 상부, 별도의 원형 받침대가 결합되는 다단 구조의 기물입니다. 전체 높이가 약 35.5cm에 이르며, 건축적인 형태와 용문·운문·회문·연판문 등 다양한 전통 장식을 입체적으로 구성한 점이 특징입니다.

중앙 향로는 둥글게 부풀린 몸체에 세 개의 다리를 갖춘 삼족 형식으로 제작되었습니다. 몸체 전면에는 구름 사이를 유영하는 용을 부조로 표현하였으며, 용의 비늘과 갈기, 발톱 등의 세부를 비교적 세밀하게 나타냈습니다. 양쪽에는 위로 치켜올라간 귀를 배치하고 표면에 연속 회문을 새겨 장식성을 더하였습니다.

향로의 세 다리는 짐승의 얼굴을 형상화한 수면족(獸面足) 형태로 구성되어 있습니다. 기물의 무게감을 받쳐주는 기능적인 요소를 장식으로 적극 활용한 것으로, 몸체의 용문과 함께 위엄 있는 인상을 형성합니다.

상부에는 중국 전통 누각을 연상시키는 이중 처마 구조의 향연부가 결합됩니다. 기와골과 처마 끝을 반복적으로 입체 표현하고, 중간 벽면에는 아치형 투창을 연속하여 마련하였습니다. 처마 아래쪽에도 별도의 통기구가 있어 내부에서 향을 피울 경우 연기가 자연스럽게 빠져나갈 수 있도록 구성되어 있습니다.

별도의 받침대는 원형 단 위에 연판문을 두텁게 돌리고 하단을 투각하여 제작하였습니다. 받침대 상면 중앙에는 파도 위를 노니는 용을 부조로 장식하여 본체의 용문과 통일감을 이루고 있습니다. 본체·누각형 덮개·받침대를 분리할 수 있는 조립식 구조 역시 사진에서 확인됩니다.

특히 향로 본체 저부에는 ‘乾隆年製(건륭년제)’ 사자관지가 확인됩니다. 다만 이러한 관지는 후대 중국 금속공예품에도 고전적 장식 요소로 폭넓게 사용되므로, 관지 자체만으로 청 건륭제 연간 제작품임을 의미하는 것은 아닙니다.

전체적으로 백동 특유의 은회색 금속색을 띠며, 표면에는 산화와 변색, 마찰 및 사용에 따른 흔적이 자연스럽게 남아 있습니다. 누각·삼족향로·연화형 받침대를 하나의 수직적인 구성으로 결합하고 용문과 전통 건축 요소를 적극 활용한 장식성이 높은 중국 금속 향로입니다.
