Seok-gun Seoyeon Son (also known as Seo Jo) was a highly renowned figure painter in modern Chinese art history. Born in 1899 and passing away in 1961, he was a master artist primarily active in Beijing, establishing an unparalleled reputation in traditional Chinese historical and figure painting, as well as depictions of ancient stories.

His work is characterized by a modern interpretation of traditional painting techniques, featuring delicate figure renderings and exquisite coloring. His active period spanned the mid-20th century (approximately 1940s to 1970s).

遊人客(管)春老 将老踏花归去馬蹄香
(Nageune-neun bomi jeomuneun juldo moreugo, neulgeoganeun madang-e kkot-eul balmyeo doragani malbalgup-eseo hyanggi-ga naneyo)
Translation: "The traveler, unaware of spring's decline, returns treading on flowers as old age approaches, the scent of which lingers on his horse's hooves."

This inscription, quoting an ancient poem, depicts the elegant leisure of scholars enjoying a spring outing on horseback.
