굵은 고목과 푸른 잎 사이에 한 쌍의 아름다운 새가 앉아 있는 화조도 접선입니다. 선명한 청색 깃털과 붉은 부리, 흑백 점문이 어우러진 새의 모습은 심전(沈銓) 특유의 화려하면서도 섬세한 화풍을 연상시키며, 생동감 있는 필치가 화면 전체에 고풍스러운 운치를 더하고 있습니다.

좌측 제발에는 「時在丙寅仲夏之吉 南蘋沈銓寫此並記」라 적혀 있습니다. “병인년 한여름 길한 날에 남빈(南蘋) 심전(沈銓)이 이를 그리고 함께 기록하다”라는 뜻으로, 심전의 호인 남빈(南蘋)과 이름이 함께 쓰여 있습니다. 붉은 낙관 역시 화면에 품격을 더해주고 있습니다.
