[BUNJANG] Shino Ware Matcha Chawan Tea Bowl /
Diameter: 13.0 cm
Height: 8.3 cm
This is a traditional Japanese tea bowl crafted using the Shino Ware technique. Shino Ware originated in the Mino Province of Japan during the late 16th century (Momoyama period, 1573-1603). It is renowned for its pioneering use of thick, opaque white feldspar glaze, a first in Japanese pottery history.
This particular chawan features a distinctive milky-white glaze with beautifully rendered crater-like bubbles, reminiscent of yuzu peel texture. The subtle iron specks glowing beneath the glaze create a captivating contrast with the greyish-white base.
The unglazed footrim accentuates the rough, sandy texture of the clay, adding to its rustic charm and embodying the 'wabi-sabi' aesthetic. This piece is not only suitable for preparing matcha but also serves as an exquisite antique decorative item or collector's object.
A rare ceramic piece, held in collection for a long time.
