This album captures a legendary all-star jam session that took place on a Sunday afternoon in 1967 at the historic Village Gate in New York. Produced by Sonny Lester, the record features an informal yet vibrant live performance by some of the era's greatest jazz musicians.

The tracklist includes swinging standards like "Sweet Georgia Brown," Gertrude Berg's "Hit the Trail," and Dizzy Gillespie's signature "Tour de Force."

With its pop-art inspired illustration cover, this record is a superb example of the electric atmosphere and tight interplay found in New York's modern jazz clubs of the late 1960s.

**Featuring a Stellar Lineup:**
* **Dizzy Gillespie (Trumpet):** Co-founder of bebop, renowned for his bent trumpet style and high-note solos.
* **Pepper Adams (Baritone Saxophone):** A master who defined hard bop baritone saxophone with his bold, gritty drive.
* **Chick Corea (Piano):** Showcasing his energetic and lyrical playing in his mid-twenties, just before joining Miles Davis' band.
* **Garnet Brown (Trombone):** Delivers a heavy and warm tone, filling out the ensemble with masterful hard bop trombone.
* **Richard Davis (Bass) & Mel Lewis (Drums):** The golden rhythm section of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, leading with precise and solid swing.

The standout feature is the dazzling solo battle between Dizzy Gillespie and Pepper Adams, underpinned by the agile piano comping of a young Chick Corea, offering a thrilling experience for jazz aficionados.

This is a classic live recording that stands as a testament to the brilliance of jazz masters gathered in one place.
